Ligeti 100

Orchestras and concert halls around the world are paying tribute to György Ligeti this year on the occasion of his 100th birthday in May
2023. After the start of the Ligeti 100th anniversary year at the Vienna Konzerthaus in January, it was the Berliner Philharmonie that
became the stage for the composer's works with its Biennale in February - an exhibition about Ligeti's life and work is on display until the end of May.

The Biennale offered a comprehensive showcase not only of Ligeti's groundbreaking orchestral music such as Lontano and Atmosphères, but also of works for piano, chamber ensembles, organ, and choir. On For performances of Ligeti‘s large-scale Requiem, Matthias Pintscher entered the Philharmonic podium. Another highlight was the concert of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin under Robin Ticciati: the Macabre Collage, a suite that has only been performed twice before, was heard. A symposium on Ligeti also took place as part of the Biennale.

Until 31 May, an exhibition of little-known photos and documents from György Ligeti's estate can also be viewed in the foyer of the Philharmonie, curated by the State Institute for Music Research in cooperation with the Paul Sacher Foundation.
